Ballasts for Fluorescent Lamps

Ballasts for fluorescent lamps are available in two types. The traditional ballasts are based upon a 50Hz electromagnetic circuit and consist of a laminated iron core with a winding of insulated copper wire.

The most popular options are ballasts that operate using high frequency electronic circuitry as these can significantly reduce energy costs.

Ballasts for High Intensity Discharge Lamps

The majority of High Intensity Discharge lamps operate using copper-iron control gear. These are based upon a 50Hz electromagnetic circuit and consist of a laminated iron core with a winding of insulated copper wire.

These copper-iron ballasts are designed to provide a long operational life.
